Thank you for the birthday wishes!!!

Journal Entry: Mon Oct 7, 2013, 10:05 PM

Hey Hey DA!!

Just wanted to say a mass thank you to those who took the time to wish me a happy birthday, and that I appreciate the love!! It was a rather uneventful one this year as I've been sick with a cold the last couple days, however I did go to a cool David Bowie exhibit with friends at the AGO (Art Gallery of Ontario), and also got to check out a bit of Nuit Blanche this year. It's an all night art festival in Toronto with exhibits all over the city and is pretty fun.

Also I finally got an Instagram account, in which I take pictures of whatever- toys, nature, events, food, doodles, my face...etc. Here is my account if you'd like to follow me:

I'll be working on some Halloween art soon too!!

Welp, that's all for now, take care all and thanks once again!

  • Mood: Tired
  • Listening to: Daft Punk

My name is Christina (or as I go by on the internets-- Christina Dee) I'm a graduate of Sheridan's classical animation program and am a freelance illustrator and cartoonist.

Drawing is my life, and I will never stop drawing no matter how frustrating and stressful it can be sometimes! I love to draw dark, quirky but cute things. Macabre illustrators, North American animation styles and anime/manga influences are usually prevalent in my work. I'm also influenced by fashion illustration and design.

I'm free to do commissions and freelance work too so just email or note me!

I try to reply to each comment I get, but please don't take it personally if I don't, sometimes I get lazy with responding ^^;

Hope you enjoy your stay <3

You've been hugged.

Spread the DA love around! (you can copy and paste this message on their userpage!)

1- You can hug the person who hugged you!
2- You -MUST- hug 6 other people, at least!
3- You should hug them in public! Paste it on their user page!
4- Random hugs are perfectly okay! (and sweet)
5- You should most definitely get started hugging right away!

I am applying to a Character Animation program for college and I just have to say I am SO inspired by your work! Any tips? :)

Thank you very much!! :)

Tips...well, you should strive to have a good handle on gestures and fluidity in your work, you don't want your characters to look stiff since animating is all about movement. Sketch a lot, and don't worry about cleanliness, rather, focus on getting your characters in strong poses and conveying movement in the drawing.

Also structure and basic anatomy is important, and will continue to improve with life drawing classes which are usually included in animation programs. Try to take some life drawing classes if you can now, but if you can't, you can still draw people walking around in the mall or something.

Here's a good example of gesture and structure in character design, you can see the under drawing and the build of the character (I'd look at more of Tom Bancroft's work, he's pretty awesome)…

The rest of that pininterest board has good examples too.

I hope this helped, good luck!!! :D

Thank you! I definitely need to work on basic anatomy some more and I do take art classes outside of school but I should start doing some more movement drawings. I will also check out Tom Bancrofts work.  :D (Big Grin)  Totally helped, thanks for the tips!
