I dont usually like to make personal type posts in my DA journal (that's what LJ is for!) but since it's regarding my art, why not..
I'm feeling kinda lost in terms of my art and my style. I cant say I like my stuff to much right now..well, maybe that's too harsh. I do like my stuff, but then I see other art so much better then mine and ask myself why I even bother. A very common thing to happen to all artists, I know. Looking back I know I've improved immensely, its not even funny..the stuff I drew back then compared to now is like, Wow..I'm proud of myself for improving so much but I'm just not at the level I want to be at. I feel too behind. Sometimes it feels like I'm working and stressing for nothing, I've just been feeling like giving up lately..just stop drawing. I know I'll never do this, I mean, its just not possible, since art is actually like a compulsion for me, I just HAVE to draw. But it's hard to get something good out when I'm not feeling it. Typically, I'll see some amazing art and it will inspire me, I'll be so motivated to work harder so I can get that good, but in terms of that, I've just been like, "why bother, reaching that level is probably not gonna happen in a looooong time"
I've given up on a lot of things in life, art has not been one of them. And even though I dont think I ever will, the feeling of losing hope is quite burdening. You know how people have mood swings? It's like that with my art..one day I'll love it, another I'll despise it.
This coming September is my last year of Sheridan Animation, sometimes I'm surprised I've come this far. For our final year we have to make a completed 1 minute film. I'm both excited and scared about this. This is our time to put all of ourselves into our film..I want to do a film that I can be proud of, something that is purely me. I hope I can achieve that. It's pretty scary to think that after that I have to face the real world face first.
I'm also more and more disgusted with the snobbery and elitism there is in the art world. It really makes me sick how some people refuse to talk to others, or look down on them because they feel that they aren't on the same level. Yeah, being an artist is a talent, and requires a lot of hard work, but you aren't a doctor, a surgeon, a firefighter...you aren't risking your LIFE to save others, or treating people with serious illnesses, so STFU.
I'm pretty sure I've emo'd about my style in my DA journal before, so I'll keep it short, I wish I could develop a style that is a bit more distinct. I'm really not feeling that in my work and it's driving me nuts.
Finally I'd just like to say thank you to all my the people who watch me and comment on my work. It seriously means a lot, knowing that there are actually people out there that enjoy my work. It's a constant reminder for me to snap out of these silly moods, so thank you

I totally see what you're saying, I can definitly see the "me" in those various styles, I guess what I'm having trouble the most with is combining everything together, you know? Sometimes its like i'm looking at art from a couple of different artists rather than one. Many artists say that it just happens and that it isnt something you can force...perhaps i'm just being too impatient lol

The way I started drawing and coloring, was by taking inspiration from other work, and where I may still be horrible, at least I have discovered my own style and what I can do.
Maybe you should experiment in other styles and mediums, but never lose the YOU in your art, it's what makes it wonderful.
